It seems to me that some of the best dark fantasy books are also children's book and The Graveyard Book has been voted the best of the best this year. Considering it takes place primarily in a graveyard, this charming book has an innocent and unwordly spirit. Made me wish I had been raised by the graveyard spooks...
When asked about the plot of The Graveyard Book, Mr. Gaiman said, “I thought you could write something a lot like ‘The Jungle Book’ and set it in a graveyard”.
